“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” – Mark Twain

Amazon River

We entered the Amazon River yesterday (Sunday). It is nice to be on the river because there is no more rocking from side to side like it was in the ocean. The water now a brownish color, and it was neat to see the ocean mix in with the river. Last night the sunset on the River was AMAZING!!! It is rainy season here, so one time it will be sunny, another rainy, another overcast. We are on the equator and so it is HOT and very humid. We are going down the Amazon to get to our port Manaus. The only way to get to Manaus is by plane or boat; there are no highways that connect to get there. Yesterday, some US Embassy officials in Brazil came one the ship and will be riding down the river with us. Today is "Brazil Day" where we have seminars all day about safety and random information to know. Last night we had a cultural pre-port and they told us how expensive everything in Brazil is. For example, a Big Mac meal would be $10. They also informed us of the crime problems, but assured us it has gotten better. Tuesday I will be leaving for Rio and will be there until Friday!
