Thursday 2/2
Thursday, we had to get up early again for a trip to the favelas. A third of the people live in the favelas that blanket many of the hillsides. Favelas are make-shift dwelings that are built around urban areas. They are known for being really bad in drugs. It was nice to see everything and how they live. There were kids running around everywhere. The kids only get schooling that they provide through volunteer teachers. Some people have never left the community. It was an eye opener seeing how they live. We were able to do graffiti and take a walking tour around the community. After this long morning, we went to the Brazilian steakhouse again since everyone thought that that was really good. Then I went to the beach with Alex, my roommate in Rio, and Matt. It was really nice to just lay there and RELAX. Lina, Alex, Taylor, Matt and I went out to eat for our last dinner along the beach in Rio. The next morning we had to leave the hotel at 3:45am and be in the lobby by 3:30am.
Friday 2/3 ; Today
Needless to say, I am exhausted after getting probably 8 hours of sleep total all week in Brazil. Getting back to the ship was a nice feeling to get back organized in my room and SLEEP! Tomorrow classes start up again. Nothing like Saturday and Sunday classes!

Some favelas
This is how they wash clothes with different buckets; soaking, ringing out water, and hanging on the clothes lines that are hung everywhere through the village.
